Meta has launched a dedicated, native Mac app for its Meta AI assistant, marking the chatbot's first official desktop home. The app was released on August 19, 2026, as reported by The Verge.

The version 1.0 beta app is a compact 16MB download and runs natively on Apple silicon Macs with macOS 15 or later. It is built using AppKit and SwiftUI with WebKit for chat content, distinguishing it from Electron apps or repackaged mobile versions.

A key feature is the ability for users to share a window with the AI assistant. This allows Meta AI to read the content on screen for context, enabling it to create content or make suggestions based on what it "sees," though it does not control the screen.

The app also includes Mac-specific integrations like a Quick Invoke feature, activated with Option-Space, and dictation support into any Mac app. Meta is pairing the launch with new account connections aimed at creators and small businesses, including a link to Google Workspace.
